Waking up to the headlines of “Deadliest mass shooting in the US” makes me angry and sad. While it’s impossible to know what is really going on in another person’s mind, reports are suggesting that the gunman’s motivation may have been due to anti-gay leanings.
I am tired of the hate and violence that comes from people simply being different than us. Racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, etc – these stem from a perspective that there is something fundamentally wrong with people who are not like us. This is an elitist, ugly notion that I believe comes from a lack of self-acceptance. If we can truly accept ourselves, flaws and all, can’t we also accept others for who they are?
Love yourself. Love others. Accept yourself. Accept others.
